Rememberance Day Event
The Grand Lodge of F. & A.M., State of Louisiana, will sponsor a
"Remembrance Day" event in joint recognition of the 10th anniversary of the
Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attacks and the sixth anniversary of Hurricane
Katrina beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at Jerusalem Temple, 1940 Ormond
Boulevard in Destrehan.
The event is free and open to the public. A keynote address will be
delivered by Lieutenant Gov. Jay Dardenne, and special guests will include a
fireman from the Boston, Mass. Fire Department assigned to search and rescue
during 9/11, as well as two firefighters from the New York Fire Department
who were present at ground zero.
Twelve parishes including St. Charles, the City of New Orleans and the State
of Louisiana have officially proclaimed Labor Day, Sept. 5, a "Day of
Remembrance" in anticipation of this special tribute event. Organizers
expect other guests to include parish presidents and state representatives
Joseph Lopinto and Gary L. Smith.
The event will also feature a concert by the Jerusalem Shrine Band, which is
made up of professional musicians playing music from the 1920s through the
