National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

On Oct. 29, DEA and the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office will again coordinate a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinet.

The 2008 National Survey on Drug Use and Health estimates there are 6.2 million current non-medical users of psychotherapeutic drugs in the United States. The NSDUH survey further indicates there are more Americans abusing psychotherapeutics than the number of cocaine, heroin and hallucinogen abusers combined.

Expired, unused or unwanted controlled substances in our homes are a potential source of supply that fuel this abuse and are an unacceptable risk to public health and safety. We thank you for your support and for joining us in this effort to raise awareness and remove these substances from our state.
  • Controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter substances are accepted.
  • Participants may dispose of their own medications and take the original container with them.
  • Any containers deposited should have identifying information removed.
For more details about take-back sites across the state of Louisiana, visit www.dea.gov. For more information on this event, call (985) 783-1355.
