The St. Charles Parish Satellite Center will host its seventh annual Video and Animation Festival April 20 at the St. Charles Parish Professional Learning Center, 12727 Hwy. 90 in Luling. The Festival will feature work by some of the most creative high school students in Louisiana. The public is invited to come out and enjoy an afternoon celebrating the art forms of animation, film and broadcasting.
Scheduled events are as follows:
4 p.m. - 7 p.m.: Public Screening of Student Submissions
The Festival received over 130 video and animation submissions from high school students throughout the state. Those submissions will be shown continuously during this time in different rooms throughout the Professional Learning Center.
7:15 p.m. - 8 p.m.: Awards Ceremony
Beavan Blocker, animator for the Oscar Award-winning Moonbot Studios in Shreveport, will kick off the awards ceremony with a short talk about his work as an animator at Moonbot and how they are changing the landscape of animation in the state of Louisiana for the future.
Immediately following, runner-up and first place awards will be given in festival categories, including:
- Animation: Short film/documentary, PSA/commercial, music video.
- Video: Short film, documentary, news/sports, PSA/commercial, music video.
- Experimental: Video or animation.
All submissions are pre-judged by a panel of university professors and professionals from the animation, film and broadcasting industries.
