On June 8 St. Charles Parish Hospital will celebrate the grand opening of its new emergency services facility. The community celebration will be held from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at 1057 Paul Maillard Road in Luling. The public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony and tour the building.
The opening of the new emergency services facility is a significant milestone in the 53-year history of the hospital. The celebration will include remarks by St. Charles Parish President V.J. St. Pierre and St. Charles Parish Hospital CEO Federico Martinez Jr. Tours of the facility will be offered from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with jambalaya served.
“The planning stage of the new emergency services facility began shortly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. We researched the latest in emergency design and visited several hospitals around the country to determine what would work best for our community,” Martinez said. “Joseph Guarisco, MD, Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Ochsner Health System, helped us finalize the plans. I‘m excited to unveil this new facility on June 8 to the residents of St. Charles Parish.”
Features of the facility include 15 multi-functional patient rooms and five behavioral health beds. Designed according to the latest recommendations of the Health Care Advisory Board in Washington D.C., the new facility is structured to efficiently handle surges in patient volume, resulting in less wait time. Other features include progressive medical technology, spacious waiting rooms and private consultation areas.
One of the most unique features of the new Emergency Services facility is its self-contained hazardous decontamination area. Since more than 20 industrial plants are located within St. Charles Parish, this addition will allow the hospital to efficiently handle chemical-related emergencies.
