Terrebonne Advocates for Possibility is proud to host the third annual Chauvin Culture and Heritage Festival Oct. 20 and 21 at the Ward 7 Citizens Club, 5006 Hwy. 56 in Chauvin.
On Saturday, cooking for the jambalaya cook-off begins at 9 a.m., with tasting at noon. Prizes will be awarded at 2 p.m. Cooking team applications are still available. The winners of three writing/art contests for students in grades k-12 will also be announced at 2 p.m.
The weekend's live music lineup includes Voodoo Bayou, Waylon Thibodeaux, Bruce Daigrepont, Larry White, Autumn High, LA 56 and more, including performances by school groups and other local acts. On Saturday night, during the Voodoo Bayou concert, there will also be a preteen dance inside the Ward 7 building with DJ Blair Luke. Both days will feature handcrafted work and exhibitions by local artists and artisans, community outreach projects, children's games and activities, delicious home-style food and cold drinks.
On Sunday, 5K fun run "We Run the Bayou" begins with registration at 7 a.m. That day there will also be a raffle with prizes, including a pirogue, a gun cabinet, a cypress swing and a gas grill. Raffle tickets are available for $1 each.
This program is supported by grant funds from the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government's Art Funding Program as administered by The Houma Regional Arts Council.
