St. Charles Parish handgun owners will be able practice their skills at the Sheriff’s Office’s firing range on five days in April and May. The range, located behind the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on Highway 3127, will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 16, April 13, April 20, May 4 and May 18.
The range is open to handguns only. A mandatory, one-time 30-minute safety briefing will be held at the range starting at 8 a.m. on the range days. Shooters must be at least 18 years old. All participants are required to bring the following:
Valid identification
Ammo
Safety glasses
Hearing protection
A baseball type cap
Targets
Staple gun and staples
All weapons must be unloaded and in a suitable case, such as a gun box or holster, when entering the range. Upon arrival, weapons must be left in your vehicle until the safety briefing and required paperwork is complete, and permission has been given by the range officer.
