Position Summary:
Laborers, under direct supervision, following approved policies and procedures while following specific instructions and a specific timeline, perform duties geared towards maintaining a clean, safe and efficient job site while also supporting the overall project. Employee is considered essential personnel and must report to work if required by their manager during any Emergency or Natural Disaster occurs.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsible for (un)loading small tools and small equipment needed for jobs.
Organizes and gathers necessary tools for daily jobs.
Assists with keeping job sites clear while cutting and trimming trees and making sure all ditches are cleaned where work is being done.
Assist with the washing of equipment used in daily work routine.
Assist road crew with filling and putting out sandbags.
Assists ground keepers with weed eating and grass cutting.
Assists with the excavation and replacement of drainage culverts.
Performing manual tasks that may include removing trees, roots, and stumps; cutting weeds by hand; trimming trees; refueling vehicles/equipment; directing traffic while vehicle/equipment is stopped; setting up or removing safety cones; repairing sidewalks, roads, and driveways as needed.
Puts out signs on job sites as well as barricading job site areas.
Directs traffic around job sites for safety.
Assist with laying, inspecting, and cleaning culvert pipes and connect fittings while cleaning dirt from pipes with a shovel or rake as necessary.
Batches/fixes pipes when cracked underground.
Digs holes for catch basins using chainsaws and grinders.
Fuels and greases vehicles and/or equipment.
Inspects vehicles and equipment for any issues.
Reports mechanical difficulties to the appropriate personnel for repairs.
Follows all safety policies and procedures to ensure safe operations when completing tasks.
Competencies:
Knowledge of routine, or repetitive tasks which typically include following step-by-step instructions and requires little or no previous training or experience.
General knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety rules and precautions in the operation of equipment, tools, and vehicles to perform job duties.
Ability to operate and maintain various light and/or medium tools such as shovels, chainsaws, and grinders.
Knowledge of and experience complying with safety principles, practices, and procedures.
Ability to understand and learn the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions to be taken in grounds maintenance work.
Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions.
Ability to perform physical labor required of the position.
Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in contact with the public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey and exchange information.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing while understanding and following instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
Knowledge of and experience complying with safety principles, practices, and procedures.
Education and Experience:
Have some experience in the operation of light and/or medium construction, landscaping and other related equipment OR equivalent combination of experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
High school diploma or GED preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Louisiana Class “E” driver’s license
Work Environment:
The primary duties of this position are performed outdoors.
Physical Requirements:
Work involves moderate risks or discomforts and requires physical exertion. Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are for heavy work.
