Position Summary:
The Electrician reports to their department supervisor, or designee. This position requires independent and a team effort with only general deadlines as scheduled; uses original thinking to develop, recommend or initiate policies and procedures. Employee is a regularly assigned lead worker who assists with technical guidance and training. Employee is considered essential personnel and must report to work if required by their manager during any Emergency or Natural Disaster occurs.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of AC and DC electrical circuits up to and including 600 Volts.
Resolve issues with a wide variety of pump configurations including electrical motors, diesel engines, natural gas engines, and submersible pumps all at an industrial level.
Maintain and repair communication systems and remote site mobile network connections.
Maintain and troubleshoots industrial control panels to ensure minimal modification between sites that follow same compliance.
Assist Automation Technician by improving projects for critical infrastructure including installations of power systems, including transformers, switch gear, variable frequency drives, soft starters, motor controllers, generators, D/C uninterruptable power supply systems, bar screen, lighting panels, and/or control system upgrades/installs/integrations and the layout of new and existing drainage stations.
Supervise Electrician Helpers with onsite installations or improvement and/or capital projects on drainage infrastructure.
Perform regular weekly/semiannual/annual/3-year maintenance and part replacement for generators. Responsible for proper upkeep and swift trouble shooting to provide power to our stations as a reliable alternative.
For general electrical component failures, needs to quickly investigate, strategize, and implement a course of action.
Develop detailed parts lists on all jobs and projects he or she oversees
Assure that control systems logic and equipment are maintained as to promote a safe and efficient operation.
Maintain and safely understand how to properly use all electrical equipment.
Diagnose and troubleshoot to determine causes of problems and the most efficient way to properly maintain critical parish infrastructure.
Ensure the safety and proper training of Electrician Helpers making sure they understand how to properly work in the electrical field. Teach them Electric Theory.
Coordinate with subcontractors and contractor for projects and/or maintenance service.
Research up-to-date/replacement parts and/or equipment that will further improve Electrical Department while keeping up to date with vendors and what they are supplying and/or can offer to insure proper allocation of public funds.
Electrical installations that include bending, threading, and installing all types and sizes of conduit underground/overhead, pulling all size wire, building racks, mounting control panels/enclosures, motor controllers, float switches, actuators, load bank panels and transfer switches.
Maintain work truck and a wide range of tools, both power and hand as well as equipment and replacement parts.
Administers or makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraising, and disciplining, etc., submitting such records and reports as required by Department management.
Participates in and assists with the interviewing/hiring of new parish employees.
Works with Electrical and Automation team to schedule jobs.
Oversee the maintenance of equipment and materials while inspecting equipment for proper operations.
Ensures work is being performed according to special permits that may be required.

Competencies:
Knowledge of a broad body of rules, procedures, or operations requiring extensive training and/or experience to perform a wide variety of non-standard assignments and resolve a wide range of problems.
Considerable knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and techniques of electrical work.
Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions for use in the electrical field of work.
Considerable knowledge of and ability to administer the principles of supervision, organization and administration.
Ability to use computer programs/software systems such as word and excel and other necessary programs used in the course and scope of job.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing while understanding, carrying out and following written and oral instructions.
Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in contact with the public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED. Have 1 to 2 years of experience in electrical maintenance work. Any equivalent combination of experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Class “E” Louisiana Driver’s License

Work Environment:
The primary duties of this position are performed outdoors.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand for long periods of time, use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Must be able to twist and bend their bodies to get in tight spaces. Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolds or poles. Must be able to walk for long periods of time. Must be able to work with and hold heavy objects.
